The Anti-Acting Philosophy
There is another way. For too long, the very word “acting” has led us astray. It suggests something we do—a task to perform, an effort to exert, a feeling to manufacture. When actors hear “act,” they begin trying. They try to be angry. They try to be sad. They try to be interesting. And in that trying, they lose the one thing that cannot be manufactured: truth.
Some call it “pretending truthfully.” But pretend is still pretend. However skilled the imitation, however convincing the display, something essential remains absent—the actor themselves, fully present, genuinely alive in the moment.
What is missing is not better technique. What is missing is the willingness to stop doing and simply be. This is the territory Anti Acting seeks to reclaim.

Ashwin is a very sharp teacher he notices every little thing an actor does. The minute you leave the character in a scene even for a split second he knows! That’s what makes him such a good teacher. I had a good experience working with him!

Our Students Testimonials

As an actor, if you truly want to elevate your craft and take your work to another level, my experience with Ashwin Sir has been exactly that—an elevation in the acting world. His process is not just about performance, it’s about opening yourself up. Through the work, I discovered hidden, vulnerable parts of myself that I had never accessed before. The sessions are deeply interactive and push you to respond honestly in the moment. What stands out is how he guides you to break patterns and move beyond surface-level acting. It’s not always easy, but if you come with an open mind, the growth is undeniable. For any actor serious about their craft, I would strongly recommend training with him.

Hi, I took the acting workshop with Mr.Ashwin, thinking about what I could possibly learn in such a short span. I was blown away by how much he put into this course, the amazing techniques, exercises, & the discussion/ feedback sessions have really helped me grow as an actor & be honest with my art. I had a great time learning, & I would highly recommend this to all aspiring actors!

I did Meisner Level 1 & 2 with Alexander Technique, & became confident as an actor, I have practiced being more vulnerable, learned so much about the process of Character making, Preparing for a particular scene and the emotional prep for the same, being out of head while doing a scene with a co-actor and working moment to moment, most importantly the emphasis that he lays on “spontaneity” is so amazing.

I have taken both online and offline classes from Ashwin Sir & have completed Meisner Technique 1 & 2 under his guidance. He gives personal attention to every student & ensures that you truly understand the work, not just perform it. He has very sharp eyes for acting—he will immediately catch when something feels indicated or not truthful, & guide you in the right direction so you can experience it honestly. The Repetition Exercise is not only engaging but also incredibly useful—you start to realise its true value when it comes to reacting naturally as an actor. We also worked on scenes, character development, & emotional preparation. Overall, it has been a beautiful & enriching journey.

Ashwin Sir has been a wonderful acting coach. He stresses the importance of “reality of doing” and “living truthfully under imaginary circumstances,” and this foundation has deeply influenced the way I approach my work. Through his guidance, I’ve learned to move away from superficial performance and instead focus on genuinely experiencing each moment on stage or on camera. He has a very keen eye for detail and can immediately tell when something is not truthful, helping you correct it with clarity and patience.

I have taken online classes from Ashwin Sir and did Meisner Technique 1 & 2. He focuses on every student personally and makes sure you understand everything. "Living truthfully under imaginary circumstances " is the main motto for an actor. And the "Repetition Exercise" is so fun, and when you start working as an actor, you realise it's really useful when it comes to reacting. And we used to practice scenes also, how to develop a character, emotional prep, you should always be in the character while doing a scene, and many more things. Sir focuses on you being vulnerable & spontaneous, which I think is really very important for an actor. I've had a beautiful experience.

The approach is so refreshing. It focuses on truth and connection rather than forcing emotions.

It was my first ever acting learning experience and I am proud to say that I chose the best coach. Many of my friends attended various acting classes where they mostly landed confused and half-baked. But there is this one thing about him that he seeks perfection in his students and want them to give their best. He is very particular about every single detail in performance and knows his students more than we know ourselves. It’s mostly his passion for teaching which distinguishes him from every other coach in the country.

I trained with Ashwin Sir across both Meisner Technique and Stella Adler-based work, and the combination has been incredibly enriching for my growth as an actor. What I appreciate most is how he balances inner truth with imaginative expansion—he doesn’t let you rely only on personal emotion but pushes you to build a strong world around the character. His feedback is always sharp and honest; he immediately notices when something feels forced or indicated and helps you find a more truthful approach. The repetition exercises strengthened my listening and presence, while the Adler work opened up my understanding of text, circumstances, and character depth.

When I started acting I was absolutely clueless about what to do when I had to perform a scene but after being coached by him in the Sanford Meisner Technique, I have seen such a tremendous change in the way I act. Now I am not only confident about what to do when I get a scene but I also have so many tools to use. Ashwin sir really gives it his all to make sure his students are not just growing but thriving.

Ashwin Sir doesn’t just teach acting—he helps you unlearn everything that feels fake. Through Anti Acting, I’ve learned to trust my instincts and stay fully present with my scene partner. It’s the first time acting has felt real and freeing.
